Red-Hot Rampage Reaps ACL Reward
Monday, August 26th, 2019
No single hit brought Lawrence Jewers Player of the Week honors -- the West Coast Defenders right fielder corralled the award with a consistent approach in every at-bat.
"Hitting is all about discipline," said Jewers. "When you lose focus, start to lunge at the ball and swing too agressively... swinging at a lot of bad pitches... that's when your average starts to drop and you wind up fighting for playing time. You're most successful when you concentrate on the ball and make 'em throw strikes."
Concentrate he did. Jewers stroked 10 hits in 15 at-bats while cranking out 1 home run, 6 RBIs and 7 runs scored.
This season Jewers has delivered 143 hits in 508 at-bats for a .281 average with 23 home runs. He is getting on base at a .371 clip and his totals also include 101 RBIs and 108 runs scored. This year Jewers has played in 125 games.
