Newark's Castro Goes Ballistic with 5 Hits
Saturday, June 29th, 2019
Lorenzo Castro exploded for a barrage of base hits today at Bloomfield Road. The Newark first baseman had a field day in the 20-5 triumph over the Yorba Linda Mustangs, finishing with a 5-6 day and a spot in the league record book.
"My hitting philosophy is pretty simple," he said. "I focus on just seeing the ball and I try to get a good pitch."
Well, Castro must have focused at least 5 times and apparently got some good pitches, too. It was one of his best days ever with the bat.
Lorenzo Castro grounded out in the 1st, hit a two-run single in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th, walked in the 8th and hit a two-run home run off Bill Quinn in the 9th.
So far this season Castro has gotten 111 hits in 309 at-bats for a .359 batting average with 15 home runs. His stats include 66 RBIs and 67 runs scored. He has played in 81 games.
