Suspensions Handed Out for Bench-Clearing Brawl
Sunday, April 21st, 2019
The action was hot and heavy at a recent Long Island-San Antonio game at Long Island Stadium in more ways than one. When tempers flared, both benches emptied and a mild melee ensued. The only thing hurt was a few players' pride. Two of the main figures in the brawl were suspended today by league officials. The Ducks Dave Lister and San Antonio's Leland Austin will each miss 4 games for their roles in the fight.

"We do not condone this kind of behavior on the field," the league announcement read. "As such, we believe that this punishment fits the actions taken by these two players. We hope that there will not be a repeat of the incident or else the consequences will be even more severe."

So far this season Lister is hitting .323 with 2 home runs, 10 RBIs and 9 runs scored. He has 20 hits in 62 at-bats and a .419 OBP.

Austin has made 5 starts, tossed 22.1 innings, struck out 20 batters and walked 9. His record is 1-3 with a 8.06 ERA and he has limited other teams to a .374 batting average.
