Nobuhisa Sumita Hurt, Out 13 Months
Thursday, September 7th, 2017
It took the Riverside team doctor a while to realize it, but reliever Nobuhisa Sumita won't simply play through a ruptured ulnar collateral ligament after he got hurt throwing a pitch in today's Tourists-Red Bulls game. At first, it looked like Sumita might be back as early as tomorrow, but now the prognosis isn't quite so good; he's expected to miss at least 13 months.
This season Sumita has made 60 relief appearances, pitched 70 innings and struck out 90 with a record of 2 wins and 1 loss. He has compiled a 3.99 ERA and saved 2 games.
