Friday, June 21st, 2019
The expression on his face said it all when left fielder Matt Welch was injured making a defensive play today in a game at Cobb Field against Reno. You could tell that this was no minor injury. Welch was examined quickly by the team doctor and immediately rushed to the local hospital. After several tests, the diagnosis was a concussion, and in this case, it means his career is over. The Billings Mustangs issued the following statement: "It is with great sadness that we see Matt ending his career due to injury. He was a great competitor and teammate and will be missed by the Mustangs organization." Welch is 29 years old.

For the season Welch has produced 31 hits in 104 at-bats for a .298 average with 7 home runs and gotten on base at a .464 clip.
