It's Over: Warriors Stop Verney
Tuesday, May 28th, 2019
For once, it was the Horseman picking up Graham Verney.
Their offensive catalyst, as the Amarillo manager calls him, saw his 20-game hitting streak snapped as Verney was held hitless by the Westwood Warriors at Ashton Gate. The 18-year-old left fielder went 0-for-4. It should have made for a lousy day, but his teammates picked up the slack and whipped the Warriors 7-1.
At the press conference after the game, Verney told reporters, "Everybody did the job but me. No problem, we won the game."
Asked how he felt about the streak ending, he grinned and replied, "It was a good run. I'll try to start another one tomorrow."
Thus far this year Verney is hitting .368 with 5 home runs, 30 RBIs and 23 runs scored.
