Any time a rookie makes a splash on the scene, it's got to be great for his career potential. Just ask Andy Smithey, who put together a stellar month out of the pen. The Minneapolis Freeze reliever, 25, kept the opposition off balance all month as he held them to a .237 average and walked away with the Blake Camden League Pitcher of the Month award for June.
Smithey posted a 2-1 mark and a 0.87 ERA in 11 relief appearances. In 10.1 innings, he had 8 saves, 11 strikeouts, and 4 walks.
Over the season, Smithey has made 38 relief appearances with 12 saves. He has K'd 47 batters in 44.2 innings, yielded 14 walks and has a 1.41 ERA. Smithey's record this year is 5-2.
