No Comeback Likely For Juan Martínez, Career Probably Over
Saturday, October 18th, 2014
Juan Martínez's baseball career is hanging in the balance. After extensive rehabilitation to repair a bone spur in his elbow, disaster struck. The Joplin reliever tripped over an outfield tarpaulin while chasing a foul ball prior to the game and reinjured himself, causing what his doctors say is "catastrophic damage." Speaking with reporters, his manager said, "Juan is in a state of disbelief. He has come so far in his recovery, and this was a total shock. A quirky accident that might have cost him his career."
To date, Martínez has collected no saves in 5 relief appearances. He has rung up 17 strikeouts and 15 walks in 22.1 innings while registering a 4.43 ERA and a 0-1 won-lost record.
