Silver Runs Hit String to 20 Straight Games
Sunday, September 14th, 2014
He did it again!
Marty Silver got another hit and ran his hitting streak to 20. He collected 1 hit in 6 at-bats, but that wasn't enough to win the game. His Bristol City Smugglers were defeated 6-5 at Bobcats Field by the Birmingham Bobcats.
During the recent streak, the 23-year-old first baseman has remained quiet, sidestepping questions about it with ease. Whether for superstitious reasons or simply in an effort to avoid the spotlight, Silver preferred to shower praise on his team. He told reporters in the clubhouse after the loss, "We have a better ballclub than we showed today."
"It's amazing to watch him hit right now, but I don't think anybody's really mentioning it," one of his teammates said. "So, we're trying to kind of keep that quiet... don't want to jinx him." Marty Silver flied out in the 2nd, grounded out in the 4th, grounded out in the 6th, grounded out in the 8th, grounded out in the 9th and singled in the 12th.
Silver is currently batting .347 with 5 home runs and 28 RBIs.
