Espinosa Is King of Swing: Goes Deep 3 Times
Saturday, June 1st, 2019
Three home runs in a game doesn't happen often. When it does it is usually something special to celebrate. But José Espinosa of Georgia couldn't really celebrate it. In spite of his career day, the Grays lost to the Cardinals 15-14. However, he can celebrate that he joined a select group of players who have hit three home runs in a single game. He powered three into the stands today against the Boston Cardinals.
In all he was 3-3 against Boston with 4 RBIs and 4 runs scored.
Espinosa told reporters after the game, "It's rare that you actually try to hit a home run. Most of the time you fail, if you really try to hit one. But today I tried on the last one."
His manager added, "He is blessed with a natural home run swing. He gets the ball up in the air real quickly. It's just a shame we couldn't win the game, too. I'm sure it spoils the day a little for him. José is quite a competitor."
José Espinosa hit a solo-shot off Ron Hodges in the 2nd, hit a two-run home run off R.J. Lukies in the 3rd, walked in the 5th, walked in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off Mike Hamilton in the 9th.
In 56 games this year Espinosa has posted a .250 average and put up these numbers: 20 home runs, 47 RBIs and 33 runs scored.
