Ridwan Batters Chunichi for 5 Hits
Saturday, July 8th, 2017
5 hits in a game has always been a magic number in baseball. Only a handful of players will do that. Get 5 hits in a game and you get your moment of glory, your fifteen minutes of fame -- you get your name in the record book. Win or lose, you get listed.

Fawzi Ridwan got his name in the record book, but the Chunichi Dragons picked up the win, topping the Tokyo Yakult Swallows 15-12.

"Sure, I would have much preferred to win the game, but that's not how it came out. In baseball you win some, lose some and some get rained out," the Tokyo Yakult first baseman expressed his feelings during the postgame press conference.

He certainly did his part today, pounding out hit after hit.

Later in the clubhouse Ridwan spoke further about his big game. "To hit the ball consistently well, you have to relax. I was relaxed for the first four hits, but I must admit, I got too much adrenaline going when I realized that this was a special once-in-a-lifetime day. On the last hit, I was ready to swing at anything close, I was that excited. That's why my third base coach called time and told me, 'Calm down and wait for a good pitch.' That got me back on track and I nailed the first one in the strike zone."

On his record-setting day Ridwan delivered 5 hits in 6 at-bats, a day that will be good scrapbook material.

Fawzi Ridwan hit an RBI single in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, flied out in the 5th, hit an RBI double in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 8th and singled in the 9th.

This year Ridwan has hit at a .350 clip with 21 hits, 3 home runs, 15 RBIs and 9 runs scored.
