'Miraculous' Recovery Has Barnes Eyeing Comeback
Saturday, May 27th, 2017
Crimson Tide third baseman Chris Barnes has been making such spectacular progress in his recovery from a devastating back injury that he may be able to return to playing baseball next season. Not only is he walking without significant pain, he says he's feeling stronger every day. "It's been a long, grueling process, but it seems to be paying off," says Barnes, who suffered what was feared to be a career-ending injury after falling while working on his roof. "His rehab has been incredibly successful. He's way ahead of schedule," says team doctor Todd Ackerman. "It's still too early to tell for sure, but I don't see a return to the playing field as being out of the question." For now, Barnes is counting his blessings and working hard to get back into shape. "It's really pretty miraculous that I'm where I am today," says Barnes. "Someone up there's been looking out for me."
