Powell Criticizes Media After Unflattering Comments
Wednesday, May 11th, 2016
Collin Powell had a few choice words for the local media in an interview yesterday. The struggling reliever told a Texas beat reporter that his recent slump had been magnified by the local press and that the constant scrutiny was only affecting his game more. "You can only read so many negative comments in the paper and hear so much criticism on the radio before it starts getting to you," Powell said. "How would you guys like it if I badmouthed everything you wrote? Just give me a break already! It ain't gonna help me play any better, so why make the problem even worse?" After the comments were published, Texas manager Tim Spencer defended Powell. "He reallly shouldn't even be paying attention to those kinds of things, but he has a point. Collin is his own harshest critic. He really doesn't need the media piling it on. There are things I and the other coaches can help him with, but ultimately it's something he's gonna need to work out for himself."
