His manager elaborated after the game to the press, saying, "Jim worked the entire offseason on trying to shorten his swing and stay inside the ball and the hard work is paying off in base hits." "That's what I'm trying to do," Perkins said. "Be quick to the ball and let it travel a little farther so I get a better look at it." Jim Perkins singled in the 1st, hit a two-run triple in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off Carlos González in the 6th, singled in the 8th and struck out in the 9th. Thus far this year Perkins has hit .293 with 15 home runs and 72 RBIs. |
