5 Hits for Mustangs Thompson
Sunday, June 24th, 2018
"It was like I was hitting little league pitching," said Jeff Thompson after his 5-hit performance against the Jedi Knights. "No offense meant to New Orleans, but it was like I was back in little league again. I could see the ball that well. But this wasn't a kid league park, it was Heartland Kettlecorn Stadium."
The San Angelo right fielder had a fantastic day at the plate, knocking out 5 hits in 5 at-bats and pacing his club to a 20-7 victory.
His manager elaborated after the game to the press, saying, "Jeff worked the entire offseason on trying to shorten his swing and stay inside the ball and the hard work is paying off in base hits."
"That's what I'm trying to do," Thompson said. "Be quick to the ball and let it travel a little farther so I get a better look at it."
Jeff Thompson hit an RBI single in the 1st, walked in a run in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 5th, hit a two-run double in the 6th and singled in the 8th.
Thompson is batting at a .284 pace this season, picking up 79 hits in 278 at-bats with 8 home runs, 53 RBIs and 42 runs scored.
