Smith on a Tear, Hits for Cycle
Tuesday, September 5th, 2017
Temple's Edgar Smith accomplished what few others have been able to do -- he hit for the cycle. In baseball, a player hits for the cycle when he hits a single, a double, a triple and a home run in the same game, though not necessarily in that order. Collecting the hits in that order is known as a "natural cycle."
For the day he finished 4-5 with 6 RBI and 2 runs scored and helped his Goers knock off the Prussian Marxists 12-2 at The Bird Stadium. In the postgame press conference he said, "I didn't even know I had hit for the cycle until after the game."
Edgar Smith hit a three-run triple in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, hit a two-run home run off Carlos González in the 4th, flied out in the 7th and hit an RBI double in the 8th.
In the 2017 season Smith is hitting .600 with 1 home run.
