Welch Socks it to Gunners, Cracks 5 Hits Monday, June 15th, 2015 It was a hits blitz for Marvin Welch at The Battlefield. The San Francisco Earthquakes second baseman tore into Texas for 5 hits in 5 at-bats to pace the Earthquakes to a 14-5 victory and wrote his name into the baseball record book. The manager for the Gunners bemoaned his pitching, saying, "We fell behind and weren't locating well. Once you get behind in the count, you have to make real good pitches, rather than good pitches, and we weren't able to do that today." He added, "Not to take anything away from Welch, but bad location was the story of the ballgame. That's why we lost the game." Marvin Welch hit a three-run home run off Troy Baker in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 7th and singled in the 8th. This season Welch has delivered 57 hits in 238 at-bats for a .239 average with 7 home runs. He is getting on base at a .330 clip and his totals also include 28 RBIs and 30 runs scored. This year Welch has played in 63 games. |
