So Cal, The Georgia Make Deal
Monday, July 14th, 2014
You can't always get what you want, but sometimes you find a deal anyway. The Baseball News Network is reporting that So Cal and The Georgia have made a swap with 35-year-old right fielder Juan Marín being shipped to the Grays and in return the Republic would get 40-year-old right fielder Francisco Alfonso.

The The Georgia general manager said the two sides were close to a blockbuster trade before agreeing upon a smaller scale transaction. "This is just a bit of housekeeping compared to what we wanted to do," he said. "I won't name names, but the potential deal we were close to making would have certainly grabbed some headlines." A source inside the So Cal organization said the two sides might not be done dealing, and another transaction could be in the works.

This year Marín is batting .272 with 61 hits, 11 home runs, 34 RBIs, 26 walks, .359 OBP and has scored 31 runs.

Alfonso has collected 79 hits for the Republic this year, 11 of them home runs. He has also netted 37 RBIs and scored 36 runs while batting .239.
