Giants Hurler Named CL's Best Starter Friday, August 1st, 2014 There's something about a young rookie winning the Central League Pitcher of the Month trophy that sends shock waves through the league. Such is the case with Tetsui Nishida, a 19-year-old starter for the Yomiuri Giants. In July, he topped off the month with a 4-0 mark and 3.31 ERA in 5 starts, tossed 32.2 innings, fanned 27 and held opposing teams to a .193 average. Season-to-date Nishida has rung up 5 wins and 4 losses in 13 appearances. He has an ERA of 5.48 and has fanned 61 batters in 69 innings. |
