Yamashita Hitless, Stopped by Carp
Saturday, July 20th, 2013
The Yokohama Bay Stars won the game 11-4 over the Hiroshima Toyo Carp. At the same time the Carp mound corps did what no other team could do. They stopped the 26-game hitting streak of Bay Stars shortstop Masakado Yamashita. But that was still not enough to win the game.
"Our pitchers might have focused a bit too much on stopping Yamashita," the Hiroshima Toyo manager commented afterward. "He had a nice hitting streak going, but the Bay Stars have other hitters, and they did their job today."
This season Yamashita has delivered 34 hits in 100 at-bats for a .340 average with 6 home runs. He is getting on base at a .397 clip and his totals also include 24 RBIs and 19 runs scored. This year Yamashita has played in 29 games.
