5 Hits for Tar Heels Dougherty Thursday, March 9th, 2017 On top of the North Carolina hit parade today was Wayne Dougherty. He went to the plate 6 times and marched away with 5 hits, sparking the Tar Heels to a 27-3 victory over the Clemson Tigers. The sweet swinging left fielder told reporters, "Each time I went to the plate, I was thinking about hitting the ball hard somewhere. When I focus on that, I usually have quality at-bats." The skipper of the Tigers wailed to the press, "Too much plate. Not the way we planned it. Any hitter in the league will rip you when you do that." Wayne Dougherty doubled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, hit a three-run triple in the 3rd, struck out in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 5th, walked in the 6th, singled in the 7th and walked in the 8th. |
