5-Hit Blitz by Washington State's Smith Monday, April 11th, 2016 Dan Smith exploded for a barrage of base hits today at Tribe Ballpark. The Washington State first baseman had a field day against the Rice Owls, finishing with a 5-5 day and a spot in the record book. "It's a shame that we lost the game. It's really hard to enjoy what I did today," he said, lamenting the 18-5 loss. "You would think 5 hits would do it." Asked about his great day, he replied, "My hitting philosophy is pretty simple. I focus just to see the ball and try to get a good pitch." Well, Smith must have focused at least 5 times and apparently got some good pitches, too. It was one of his best days ever with the bat. Dan Smith singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th and singled in the 9th. This season Smith has hit at a .552 clip with 5 RBIs, 3 home runs and 7 runs scored. |
