Smith Touches All the Bases, Hits for Cycle
Friday, June 2nd, 2017
Kenny Smith of the Springfield Reformers touched all the bases today at The War Dome in the 8-3 victory over Chicago, hitting for the cycle. He teed off on Titans pitching for a single, double, triple and a home run. The feat is rare in baseball as it requires a game of no fewer than four hits and the unusual combination of a home run, which requires a batter to hit for some power -- and a triple, which requires a batter to have both speed on the basepaths -- and a favorable fall of the ball.

"The hardest part was the triple," confessed Smith, "A lot has to go right for you to get a triple. It is real easy to get greedy trying to stretch a double and get thrown out. It's really hard to get a three-bagger." He finished his special day with 4 hits in 6 at-bats, 2 runs batted in, 3 runs scored and a place in the record book.

Kenny Smith hit a solo-shot off Carlos Ruíz in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, hit an RBI double in the 4th, tripled in the 6th, grounded out in the 8th and flied out in the 9th.

So far this season, Smith has recorded a .289 batting average with 48 hits, 3 home runs, 20 RBIs, 23 runs scored and a .337 OBP.
