Barnes Smacks 5 Hits for Stingrays Friday, May 23rd, 2014 5 hits in a game has always been a magic number in baseball. Only a handful of players will do that. Get 5 hits in a game and you get your moment of glory... your 5 minutes of fame... you get your name in the record book. In the Stingrays 12-8 win over El Paso, Stu Barnes was red-hot today, scorching them for hit after hit at Hell Stadium. "To hit the ball consistently well, you have to relax. I was relaxed for the first four hits, but I must admit, I got a little tight when I realized I had a chance for a 5-hit game. On the last at-bat, I was ready to swing at anything close." On his big day Barnes delivered 5 hits in 8 at-bats. Stu Barnes singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, struck out in the 6th, hit a two-run home run off Jorge Ayala in the 8th, struck out in the 10th, flied out in the 13th and hit an RBI single in the 15th. Thus far in 2014 Barnes is hitting .288 with 7 home runs, 21 RBIs, 26 runs scored and has compiled a .340 OBP. |
