Thursday, May 17th, 2012
The Tulane Green Wave learned that Jason Gates is likely to be out for 9 months after he injured himself throwing a pitch in today's game against the California Golden Bears. A round of tests by the team doctor revealed the injury to be a stretched elbow ligament. Upon hearing the diagnosis, the Tulane manager told the press, "As you all know, we can't control injuries -- they are a part of the game. We just have to do the best we can until Jason is back in action."

On the year Gates has worked 57 innings with 81 strikeouts en route to a 3-2 record and 2.84 ERA.
