 | Guerrero Let Go -- Fired as Stanford Manager Saturday, June 4th, 2016 You can't fire the players when times get tough. Ramón Guerrero learned that the hard way today as he was dismissed from his managerial position with the Stanford Cardinals. Citing a need to make the change to "shake things up", a team official said it was time to move on. "We respect what Ramón has done for the club and we thank him for his time here, but we just think the future of the Cardinals needs to be handled by someone else and needs to move in a different direction," said the club's general manager in a prepared statement.
For his part, Guerrero remained upbeat about the decision. "I know it's a business and sometimes you've just got to make a change," he said. "I want to thank Stanford for the opportunity to manage here." He stated he's currently unsure about his future in the game. "I'd love to continue to be involved in baseball, but I'll have to see what opportunities are out there for me." Team officials are expected to announce an interim manager in the next few days. | |
