Carl Smith has been released as the Oklahoma manager. The Sooners say it is time to make a change and get the club headed in a different direction. The dismissed skipper was philosophical about his fate, telling reporters, "When things don't go right, the first thing management does is get a new manager. That seems to be the quickest solution to making things better -- or at least, making them seem better. That's just the way baseball is." |   |
