 | Martínez and Burke Brawl, League Suspends Them Thursday, July 7th, 2016 Héctor Martínez of the Murfreesboro Deacons was not happy with Bob Burke, and his frustration showed when he went after the Long Island player during yesterday's game at William Spade Park. Both benches cleared as they rushed to the aid of their teammates. Order was soon restored as Martínez and Burke were pulled away from each other. They were ejected from the game.
Both players were suspended 3 games by the league office as a result of their tussle.
"It's something that happens in baseball every once in a while," Martínez commented later. "We get frustrated with another player and sometimes things go too far. We'll both take our suspensions and then come back ready to play. I got no hard feelings."
During the current season Martínez is batting at a .268 clip with 9 home runs and 44 RBIs. He has played in 59 games and scored 33 times.
This year Burke has 17 relief appearances with no saves, 0-0 season record and a 6.92 ERA. He has hurled 13 innings, given up 13 hits, struck out 14 and walked 14. Opposing clubs have batted .260 against the Long Island reliever. | |
