 | Wagner Collects Cycle Sunday, September 13th, 2015 It was a special day for Steve Wagner at North Shore Park -- the Grand Haven second baseman hit for the cycle -- getting every type of hit possible. The 24-year-old Wagner racked up 1 single, 1 double, 1 triple and 1 home run to get his name mentioned in the record book. For the game he was 4-4 with 3 runs batted in and 4 runs scored.
But all that didn't win the ballgame as the Cougars took home the victory 13-9. In the words of the Anniston manager, "He hit everything we threw. There was just no getting him out today."
"I'm glad for Steve," his manager said. "It's a once-in-a-lifetime thing and a nice feather in his cap. Would've been better if we could have won the game for him, too." Speaking to the press after the game, Wagner gave the key for his record-setting day. "I just got some good pitches to hit."
Steve Wagner walked in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Barry Randall in the 5th, hit an RBI triple in the 7th and hit an RBI single in the 8th.
This year Wagner is hitting .261 with 8 home runs and 26 RBIs in 37 games played. He also boasts an OBP of .335 with 17 walks and 27 runs scored. | |
