 | Welch Pitches Reno to Shutout Win Friday, July 4th, 2014 Brent Welch had the Joplin Fireballs dancing to his tune today with a sparkling 9-0 shutout performance for the Reno Raiders. He gave up 5 hits, issued 2 walks and had 6 strikeouts. Joplin hitters were bewildered throughout the game by his delivery. The opposing manager said, "When you face a guy who hides the ball like he does, it takes a couple of at-bats to try to find his release point. We just never figured him out." This year Welch has recorded a 5-11 mark. In 18 starts he has fanned 81 batters in 110.2 innings with a 4.96 ERA. |   |
