BYFORD HITTIN' ON ALL CYLINDERS

"Ladies and gentlemen, John Byford has just hit for the cycle!" That was the call from the PA announcer as Byford collected the last hit he needed to complete the cycle today against the Phantoms. He collected 5 hits in 6 at-bats, 8 RBI and 2 runs scored as Bristol City stopped Coronado 12-9 at Phantoms Field.

Hitting for the cycle is one of the most difficult feats in baseball at any level. The odds are really against a player hitting a single, double, triple and a home run in the same game.

"It's the last thing on my mind really. I'm out there trying to get a blooper or a walk or whatever might help the team. Hitting for the cycle is probably as much about luck as about skill," Byford told reporters after the game.

He could be right, but it's not every day that someone hits for the cycle. That's why his name will be placed in the record book.

John Byford hit an RBI single in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off Elijah Fowler in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, grounded out in the 7th, hit a two-run double in the 9th and hit a three-run triple in the 10th.

Byford on the season is hitting .565 with 2 home runs. His stats include 12 RBIs and 6 runs scored.
