South Carolina's Gunner Smart Suffers Setback
Tuesday, July 21st, 2015
All is not well with Gunner Smart in his recovery from an intercostal strain. The 31-year-old Bombers third baseman has already reached some significant steps in his rehabilitation, but his manager said that the team will continue to be cautious with Smart and take his progression one day at a time, especially after the setback yesterday. "Yesterday he was feeling pretty good but he didn't do a lot on the field," he said. "Today he was supposed to be on the field doing light stuff and then gradually start working right back up. I think he overdid it." A postworkout examination revealed that Smart had reinjured himself and would now miss at least 5 days because of it.

This season Smart has delivered 54 hits in 206 at-bats for a .262 average with 12 home runs. He is getting on base at a .297 clip and his totals also include 37 RBIs and 29 runs scored. This year Smart has played in 57 games.
