Monday, December 23rd, 2013
John McGinnis, reliever of the San Angelo Mustangs, has received a 10-game suspension from the league for testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance in violation of the sport's drug prevention and treatment program.

McGinnis, in a statement, said any use of banned substances was for medical reasons.

"I want to make it known that I did not use any banned substances in order to gain a competitive advantage," McGinnis said. "I took substances that were prescribed for me by a doctor."

In the statement, McGinnis said he stopped taking the prescribed substances once he was healed of the ailment.

In his career McGinnis has collected 6 victories and 1 defeats along with 5 saves. He has a 2.41 ERA and has struck out 79 in 82 innings.
