Guzmán Bangs Out 5 Base Hits

5 hits in a game has always been a magic number in baseball. Only a handful of players will do that. Get 5 hits in a game and you get your moment of glory... your 5 minutes of fame... you get your name in the record book. Win or lose you get listed.

Ramón Guzmán got his name in the record book, but the Carolina Crush picked up the win, topping the So Cal Republic 11-8.

"Sure, I would have much preferred to win the game, but that's not how it came out. In baseball you win some, lose some and some get rained out," the So Cal right fielder expressed his feelings during the postgame press conference.

He certainly did his part today, pounding out hit after hit.

Later in the clubhouse Guzmán spoke further about his big game, "To hit the ball consistently well, you have to relax. I was relaxed for the first four hits, but I must admit, I got too much adrenaline going when I realized that this was a special once-in-a-lifetime day. On the last hit, I was ready to swing at anything close, I was that excited. That's why my third base coach called time and told me, 'Calm down and wait for a good pitch.' That got me back on track and I nailed the first one in the strike zone."

On his record-setting day Guzmán delivered 5 hits in 5 at-bats, a day that will be good scrapbook material.

Ramón Guzmán singled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, hit a two-run home run off Peter Barrett in the 6th, singled in the 7th and doubled in the 9th.

This year Guzmán is batting .295 with 72 hits and 10 home runs. He has scored 40 times and has batted in 36 runs.
