YAMAGUCHI GOES CYCLING

Yamaguchi Goes Cycling
Thursday, April 24th, 2014
It was a special day for Jiro Yamaguchi at Sailboats Ballpark -- the Yomiuri second baseman hit for the cycle -- getting every type of hit possible. The 21-year-old Yamaguchi racked up 1 single, 1 double, 1 triple and 1 home run to get his name mentioned in the record book. For the game he was 4-5 with 5 runs batted in and 3 runs scored.

But all that didn't win the ballgame as the Golden Eagles took home the victory 28-14.
In the words of the Tohoku Rakuten manager, "He hit everything we threw. There was just no getting him out today."

"I'm glad for Jiro," his manager said. "It's a once-in-a-lifetime thing and a nice feather in his cap. Would've been better if we could have won the game for him, too."
Speaking to the press after the game, Yamaguchi gave the key for his record-setting day. "I just got some good pitches to hit."

Jiro Yamaguchi hit a three-run triple in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Jiro Okamoto in the 3rd, flied out in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit an RBI double in the 8th and walked in the 9th.

So far in 2014 Yamaguchi is batting .519 with 3 home runs, 10 RBIs and 10 runs scored. He has 14 hits in 27 at-bats and a .606 OBP.
