Career Finished, Flores Suffers Setback in Rehab
Thursday, January 2nd, 2014
"It's one of the worst injuries of its kind I have ever encountered." Those were the opening words of the specialist that treated Vanderbilt Commodores reliever Carlos Flores for a torn flexor tendon in his elbow. Speaking at a press conference, the doctor went on to say, "In my professional opinion, it is highly doubtful that Carlos will ever play baseball again. Miracles are always possible, but not in this case. The original injury was treatable, but several setbacks during the rehabilitation worsened the situation and did more damage." The distraught Flores also spoke to reporters, saying, "I anticipated that the recovery would be slow, but I never expected this." Team officials said that the 20-year-old Flores would take a few weeks to decide about his future.
