 | Earthquake Hits Dominican Republic, League Joins International Relief Effort

Residents of this Carribean nation are digging out from the rubble left in the wake of a major earthquake. The temblor, which measured 7.9 on the Richter scale, devastated parts of the country earlier this week. Numerous major league players, many of whom are natives of the affected areas, and league officials have pledged millions of dollars in aid to help in the relief effort. "It's a horrible situation down there", said a distraught Héctor Ramírez, a Dominican native. "I'm still waiting to hear from many of relatives. I feel very helpless at this point. I wish there was something more I could do to help." |   |
