 | Un-four-gettable: Pretty Hits for Cycle Sunday, May 20th, 2012: Jim Pretty of the Saskatoon Legends touched all the bases today at Ballpark of Chilliwack College in the 19-1 victory over Victoria, hitting for the cycle. He teed off on Capitals pitching for a single, double, triple and a home run. The feat is rare in baseball as it requires a game of no fewer than four hits and the unusual combination of a home run, which requires a batter to hit for some power -- and a triple, which requires a batter to have both speed on the basepaths -- and a favorable fall of the ball.
"The hardest part was the triple," confessed Pretty, "A lot has to go right for you to get a triple. It is real easy to get greedy trying to stretch a double and get thrown out. It's really hard to get a three-bagger." He finished his special day with 4 hits in 5 at-bats, 5 RBI, 4 runs scored and a place in the record book.
Jim Pretty hit an RBI triple in the 3rd, hit a three-run home run off Alain Leroy in the 4th, walked in the 6th, flied out in the 7th, hit an RBI double in the 8th and singled in the 9th.
So far this season Pretty is batting .333 with 7 home runs. | |
