 | Rowdy Players Suspended by League Wednesday, May 16th, 2012: Baseball confrontations occasionally get intense and sometimes that tension becomes too much and boils over into more than just words. This time it happened to Tennessee's Manuel Gómez and Alabama's Jorge Cuarenta. The two were the main participants in a fight that cleared the benches. Today both were suspended by the league for 9 games for their aggressive actions.
"I hope things settle down now," the manager of the Crimson Tide said later. "There's no reason for us to be locked in a cycle of revenge. We all need to focus on baseball instead."
For the season Gómez is batting .152 with 17 hits and 6 home runs. He has scored 15 times and batted in 19.
To date this year, he has registered no saves, no wins and 1 loss with a 3.26 ERA. Cuarenta has made 16 relief appearances, worked a total of 19.1 innings and surrendered 17 hits. He has fanned 23, issued 12 free passes and held opposing clubs to a .227 batting average. | |
