 | Ruíz Tosses Shutout Against Houston Thursday, September 26th, 2013: Domingo Ruíz of the Dearborn Pioneers was on top of his game today. He tantalized the Houston Sting with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest and came away with a 4-0 shutout.
In the postgame comments, the Houston skipper said, "He had the changeup working. You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."
The Dearborn hurler had 7 strikeouts, gave up 3 walks and surrendered 1 hit in his complete-game effort.
Ruíz told reporters after the game, "To be successful in this league, you have to keep the ball down. If you don't, they'll make you pay."
To date this season Ruíz sports a 9-5 mark with a 1.79 ERA in 11 starting assignments. He has held the opposition to a .177 batting average and has 140 strikeouts in 141 innings. | |
