 | Dominican Native Ramírez Returns Home to Help with Quake Recovery Wednesday, March 20th, 2013: Ann Arbor center fielder Héctor Ramírez, a native of the Dominican Republic, has been granted a temporary leave of absence by his team to assist in the rebuilding effort in the earthquake-ravaged Caribbean nation. "Mercifully, all of my closest relatives are accounted for and are okay," said a relieved Ramírez. "But many of my neighbors and their families were not so fortunate. I feel it's my duty as a proud Dominican to do anything I can to help the people there recover." Ramírez will skip the next few games, but says he expects to return to the team by next week. "We fully support what he's doing," said Barn Owls manager Wally Grant. "Héctor is a terrific human being, who really has his priorities straight. Here's someone who understands that there are more important things in life than baseball." | |
