 | Díaz Super -- No-Hits Long Island Friday, June 8th, 2012: No hitters are rare. But the fans at Long Island Stadium received a special gift as Daniel Díaz of the Red Bulls tossed a no-hitter against the Long Island Ducks. He was masterful as he struck out 6 and walked 1 in a 10-0 Riverside victory. In all Díaz faced only 29 batters. Díaz did not appear to have his best stuff in the early innings, but soon got into a groove and made quick work of the Ducks. He was helped by several defensive gems along the way.
The Long Island manager said to the press after the no-hitter, "We had our chances in the first few innings, when he was hittable, but he shut us down totally in the last 4-5 innings."
"I had late movement that seemed to cause them a lot of trouble, especially from the fifth inning on," Díaz said to reporters.
Over the season Díaz has thrown 78.2 innings and dished out 76 strikeouts with a 8-1 mark and a 3.43 ERA. | |
