 | Nichols and Thompson Brawl, League Suspends Them Friday, June 1st, 2012: The action was hot and heavy at a recent Grand Haven-Ottawa game at North Shore Park in more ways than one. When tempers flared, both benches emptied and a mild melee ensued. The only thing hurt was a few players' pride. Two of the main figures in the brawl were suspended today by league officials. The Whitecaps Dave Nichols and Ottawa's Andrew Thompson will each miss 3 games for their roles in the fight. "We do not condone this kind of behavior on the field," the league announcement read. "As such, we believe that this punishment fits the actions taken by these two players. We hope that there will not be a repeat of the incident or else the consequences will be even more severe." Thus far this year Nichols is hitting .186 with 1 home run, 17 RBIs and 17 runs scored. This season Thompson has logged 12 relief appearances, 15 IP, 15 strikeouts, and a 8.40 ERA. His W-L mark is 1 win and 1 loss, and he has 1 save. |   |
