 | Costello Is Pitcher of Perfection Sunday, September 15th, 2013: It was a "one-in-a-million shot". Only happens "once in a blue moon". Or maybe only when "Hell freezes over". But for Cincinnati Snaps pitcher Ramón Costello, today's game was very, very special. The 19-year-old hurler joined baseball's most elite fraternity by tossing a perfect game against the Wichita Wolverines.
In the 10-0 Cincinnati win Costello had 10 strikeouts, retiring all 27 hitters he faced.
He told the press, "I think it was in the eighth inning that it dawned on me that not only was I pitching a no-hitter, but no one has gotten on base either. I had a perfect game going. But you know, I felt as strong as I did in the first inning. I went right after them with all I had... and I got me a perfect game."
His batterymate told BNN reporters, "He worked the corners real well and made Wichita go fishin' a lot. His breaking stuff really gave them fits. Costello didn't give them very many good looks and nothing in the middle of the plate. He was in command the whole ballgame."
So far this year Costello has 12 wins and 12 losses and a 3.10 ERA. | |
