 | Doyle Sparkles, Blanks Silicon Valley Thursday, June 6th, 2013: Phil Doyle of the Cincinnati Snaps was on top of his game today. He tantalized the Silicon Valley Hackers with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest and came away with a 6-0 shutout.
In the postgame comments, the Silicon Valley skipper said, "He had the changeup working. You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."
The Cincinnati hurler had 9 strikeouts, gave up 1 walk and surrendered 2 hits in his complete-game effort.
Doyle told reporters after the game, "To be successful in this league, you have to keep the ball down. If you don't, they'll make you pay."
This season Doyle has crafted a 3-5 mark with a 2.57 ERA in 56 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .225 against him and he has 55 strikeouts. | |
