 | Rivera Swings for the Cycle Tuesday, July 31st, 2012: The big buzz in the baseball world is about Jorge Rivera's performance today at The Firepit against Philadelphia. Rivera had 4 hits en route to hitting for the cycle, leading the charge for the Joplin 8-6 triumph over the Freedom. A cycle requires each of the four types of hits possible -- single, double, triple and home run. A batter has to have power, speed, and a little luck to do it.
"It was one of those games you dream about," Rivera told the press. "I never expected to do something like this when I showed up at the park today. All you really want to do is hit it hard and put it into play. The hits will come." And the hits did come today. The 24-year-old right fielder rounded out his superb batting display with 4 hits in 4 at-bats, 4 RBI, and 1 run scored.
Jorge Rivera hit a two-run home run off Tim Stevens in the 2nd, hit an RBI double in the 3rd, singled in the 5th and hit an RBI triple in the 7th.
This season Rivera has 6 home runs and a .264 batting average. | |
