Saturday, September 15th, 2012: The Nottinghamshire Outlaws were dealt a severe blow when Fred Jones was hurt throwing a pitch recently in a game against the Greenville 84's. After the game, the team trainer reported Jones might have to spend a lengthy time on the disabled list. Today doctors confirmed it, ruling the 35-year-old reliever out for the rest of the season with a torn ulnar collateral ligament. They indicated it would take Jones at least 14 months to heal.
For the year Jones has 58 relief appearances and a 5-2 record with 14 saves. He has logged 65.1 innings and allowed 51 base hits. Opposing clubs have put up a .212 batting average against him. Jones has rung up 66 strikeouts, surrendered 35 walks and fashioned a 2.20 ERA.
