 | Greenville Shuts out Republic, Yates Winner Monday, May 21st, 2012: "That's one thing that has never changed in this game -- pitching can control hitting," the 84's manager told reporters after today's game. The Republic ran into a buzzsaw as Barry Yates cut them down to size 12-0 with a 5-hit shutout.
His skipper added, "He knows exactly what he's doing. He's not going to throw you a good pitch until you make him throw one." In the complete game whitewash the Greenville hurler doled out 2 walks and registered 5 strikeouts.
In the postgame press conference his catcher said, "Barry goes out there and just goes about his business. I don't think he gets too concerned about what's going on. You can call any pitch and you know where he's going to be."
Yates also got some praise from the So Cal manager. "He really kept us in check today. Everything looked to be moving. Seemed like the pitch was right down the middle and it went over down and away... we took some pathetic swings."
This season-to-date Yates has 3 wins and 4 losses and a 5.63 ERA. | |
