 | Appleby Released from Hospital, Will Attempt Comeback After Losing Finger Monday, November 18th, 2013: Republic starting pitcher Ronald Appleby was released from the hospital today, a week after a lawnmower accident that claimed part of a finger and required two other fingers to be surgically re-attached. "My fingers still hurt like the dickens," said Appleby. "The doctors told me there'd be quite a bit of pain as the nerves heal. But other than that, I'm feeling great." A lengthy rehabilitation now awaits Appleby as he has to re-learn to use his left hand without half of his ring finger. "There have been plenty of great players who were missing fingers," said Appleby. "Of course, it's harder when you have to teach yourself to do something you take for granted all over again. It's okay, though. I'm up to the challenge." | |
