 | Appleby in Serious Condition After Lawnmower Accident Monday, November 11th, 2013: Republic starting pitcher Ronald Appleby is in serious condition today at a local hospital after accidentally severing three fingers on his left hand. The incident took place this morning as he was mowing grass at his home. Apparently, Appleby was attempting to clear debris from underneath the mower when his fingers got caught by the blade. According to a hospital spokesman, parts of his left index, middle, and ring finger were severed. However, both the index and middle finger were successfully re-attached during surgery. A more immediate concern had been the loss of blood, due to the amount of time it took Appleby to reach the hospital, but his condition has reportedly now stabilized. | |
